Congratulations to James Platt, a member of the Sapphire New Business team, who won his first Ultra MMA fight at a recent charity fundraising fight night! Of course, the Sapphire team were there to support and cheer him on.
James won his fight, which is amazing work for a first fight. As part of his journey, James is raising money for Cancer Research, and he has already smashed his initial donation target.
James was inspired to start his Ultra MMA journey for three main reasons:
- Inspiration from his brothers, who have been working on their own disciplines. The motivation for James is seeing their passion for their health and fitness, consistency with training, their mental progression, and their attitude.
- Our colleague Maria Dawson being diagnosed with breast cancer, and all the work she has been doing with the charity Coppafeel.
- Another of our colleagues, Becky Hall, who competed in the UWCB Boxing for Cancer Research in 2022, and won her fight, and raised the most money of all the fundraisers in Manchester.
James says “Along with many people, I have struggled hard with bad habits, lack of discipline, and being constantly ingrained in other people’s lives instead of my own. This is a turning point for me and I do not plan on reverting back. It’s a chance at something new. I now have an amazing opportunity to work on myself mentally and physically while at the same time doing my part to help better and assist in other people’s lives and struggles.”
