Mental Health First Aiders

ESG

Mental health issues worldwide are much higher than we may realise, with 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health problem each year. Stress at work can be one of the most contributing factors effecting individuals day-to-day.

At Sapphire the health and wellbeing of our team is at the forefront of everything we do, by introducing and training a team of 3 Mental Health first aiders within the business we hope to actively nurture a culture of awareness and improve support resources available to our colleagues.

Training

The training, funded by Sapphire, has added another layer of care shown by the business for each of its employees. Sessions undertaken by the team consisted of many elements; recognising the signs and triggers for those suffering from poor mental health, understanding different elements of mental health disorders and having those difficult conversations whilst learning about the channels available to help guide and support those who may need it.
It also stressed the responsibility each individual has, and the importance, on ensuring they are looking after their own wellbeing and looked at effective ways to do this.

Why we volunteered

Finding the right support for yourself can sometimes feel daunting and scary, we don’t always know where to start, where to look for the information or who/when to ask for help.
We jumped at the opportunity to take part in the training, not only to support our colleagues, but also friends/family and ourselves who may be suffering. By learning more about Mental Health we aim to build further awareness and aid in reducing stigma on the subject whilst creating a safe open workplace at Sapphire.
