What was your role when you joined, and how has your career evolved over the past decade?
I was a New Business Executive, so ultimately my role was to sign up the referrals we received. However, as we didn’t have a sales team, I also spoke to consultants regularly, which is where I found my passion. Over time, this naturally developed into a more client-facing role, which is where I really found my strengths and enjoyed the most.
Is there a particular project, achievement or moment that you’re especially proud of?
Strangely I remember signing up my first Ltd company contractor which got me my first taste of commission – I was really proud of that! My first big PSL win was a good memory as well!
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your time here?
I’d say there’s been a few, but the main piece of advice and biggest lesson I’ve taken from working at Sapphire is to always be honest.
Whether you’re speaking to a client or internally with a team member, rather than automatically saying, “Yes, we can do that” or “I did that last week,” just own it. If you don’t know the answer or you’re not sure, it’s absolutely fine to just say so!
What are three words you would use to describe your experience at Sapphire?
Enjoyable, fun, rewarding.
What’s been the funniest or most memorable moment you’ve experienced at work?
Deary me, there have been a few – maybe a few too X-rated to share now!
I’d probably say a good 7 or 8 years ago, when an ex-colleague had left the business, we used to get pre-ordered sandwiches delivered to the office on a Friday morning once a month. He called the sandwich shop and changed my sausage, bacon and egg bap to a mushroom sandwich. You can imagine my face when I opened my bap to find a bread roll full of mushrooms! I was absolutely livid!
Shout-out to Patrick as well, another ex-colleague, who lost his house keys and decided to let himself into the office on a Thursday night after staff drinks. He stripped down to his boxers and slept on the floor.
It made for a very funny Friday morning when everyone came in and saw Patrick on the floor, let me tell you!
