If you have been following along with our social media posts lately, you may have seen our fundraising efforts for the Manchester Dragon Boat Race Challenge 2023.
The Sapphire team “Clear Cut Sinking” (which we hoped was not a prediction of things to come!), had a mission; to not sink, have fun, work as a team and raise money for the amazing CoppaFeel charity. A charity that is close to our hearts, with our Head of Payroll & Compliance Maria Dawson being one of the CoppaFeel ambassadors.
The event was held on Sunday the 14th of May and was a huge success for everyone involved.
The sun was shining down on the 40 teams that were competing, the races involved team sprints spanning over a 200-metre distance. To secure a place in the grand finale, you had to be one of the 6 fastest teams. We had three opportunities to race throughout the day and worked together as a team to achieve a time that we hoped would enable us to reach the final.
It was a fantastic experience, we got to race in genuine Chinese dragon boats and race against the Great Britain rowing team. Understandably, that particular race was a tough one, trying to keep up with Team GB’s pace was no easy task, but it was such a great challenge and we had a lot of fun.
Sadly, we didn’t make the final of the Dragon Boat Race Challenge, but Team Clear Cut Sinking certainly made a splash, with one of our team members heading for a swim after things got a little rocky in the boat, we think he secretly wanted to go for a quick dip to cool off!
The event was great a success, the team thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a brilliant team-building experience. We are already planning next year’s entry! Watch this space, we are in it to win it next time!
